Oh My Darling!

Walking with Cake: Clementine Oranges

(Delicious clementine oranges.)

During the winter, clementine oranges are easy to find here, and James and Rhys love to eat them like candy.  One afternoon over the holidays, I took a long nap and awoke after the boys had finished their snack with Ryan.  I absentmindedly grabbed a clementine slice from Rhys’ bowl, noticed that it looked dry from sitting out for a while, and it was literally one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten.  It was cold that day, and the heater was on, so some magical forces combined to transform the already yummy orange into a sweet confection.

Walking with Cake: Orange slices

(Drying clementines.)

I thought it was just a one-time occurrence I was lucky enough to experience, but a few days later, I ran across this post on Apartment Therapy.  It’s really worth reading, and the writer beautifully describes the experience of eating a clementine dried in the sun.

I’ve tried recreating my first dried clementine experience, but I haven’t been as successful, probably because I get impatient and don’t wait long enough for them to dry properly.  Still, it was a wonderful, unexpected treat, and you should definitely try it!
