Anna from The Flying Clubhouse first introduced me to Curator, a lovely clothing line designed and produced in San Francisco. The pieces have that simple, minimal vibe that is popular right now, and I love the laid-back style of the entire site. Since I’m in the market for a few fall tops, I found two to share with you.
The Izzy Top, shown above, comes in three different colors and looks incredibly cozy for fall and winter. My favorite is the graphite color and it’s just the sort of top I can see myself living in throughout the colder months.

(The adorable Dolly Raglan Top.)
And the Dolly Raglan Top is my favorite piece on the site, I think. I’m a big fan of Dolly Parton and this sweatshirt features Dolly in her 9 to 5 days from the early 1980s. I might have to get this shirt once the weather cools down.
Curator has lots of great pieces on sale right now, so it’s a great time to stock up on a few basics for the coming months.
Friday afternoon, an email from Battleground Texas let me know that Wendy Davis was coming to Pflugerville on Saturday, and when I checked the location, I realized it was literally in walking distance from my house! We didn’t have anything scheduled for Saturday morning besides back-to-school haircuts for the boys, so we easily ditched that plan and walked up the street to our neighbor’s house. There was a fairly large crowd gathered in the backyard, and we made ourselves at home and waited for Davis’ arrival. I was thrilled to discover I’m not the only Democrat in Pflugerville, and when one of the hosts got up to introduce herself, she said the same thing.
Senator Davis gave a short speech, posed for photos, and answered a few questions from the local reporters covering the story. Friday evening, our current governor was indicted by a grand jury on two felony counts of abusing his power as governor, and the case will play out over the next weeks and months. (Here’s a very helpful audio explanation of the charges.) The indictment was on everyone’s mind, as well as the fact that it’s time for new leadership in Texas.
I’ve been a Wendy Davis supporter since her filibuster last summer, and hearing her speech on Saturday was incredible. I feel excited and hopeful for the November election, and Davis is working incredibly hard to tell everyone in Texas about her plans for our beloved state. She took the time to visit our little neighborhood in a small community, one of many stops in her busy schedule that day, and I will always remember it.
If you’re in Texas, I urge you to do your homework and consider voting for Wendy Davis. She’s a breath of fresh air in this dark political period and our state desperately needs a change for the better.
We got back to our regular routine this week, and now we’re gearing up for the start of school very soon. The boys went to Lego camp and it was a great way to wind down the summer. The news was filled with sadness this week, and I’m grateful that my little guys are still too young to understand it. But I’m not, and I’m reading and listening, so here are the things that caught my attention this week.
A New York Times tribute to Robin Williams. And PBS remembers him, too. What an amazing man.
Photographs from Ferguson, Missouri, and a first-person account from the town. Ferguson could be my town, too, and that is heartbreaking to realize.
One mother’s journey to save her son after a heroin overdose.
“Yes, I am a teacher. No, I am not going to destroy society and your children.”
An Army officer designs gorgeous bags from surplus material and gives jobs to veterans, too.
Lovely fairy portraits.
Real street fashion photography.
Photos from the new season of “Downton Abbey.”
And the history of blue porch ceilings.
Have a wonderful weekend!
