Pieces of Fall
Last year, I decorated for fall in early September, but this year, I just wasn’t in the mood. It stayed hot all month long, and despite the boys heading back to school, it still felt a lot like summer. But Tuesday marked the first day of October, and it was cloudy and grey in the morning, so I made a big pot of beef stew and added a few fall touches around the house. We still need to head out to Wildseed Farms to pick up our pumpkins, but the days are getting shorter (if not much cooler yet) and it’s starting to feel like fall around here.
This year, I used things I already had on hand and kept the decorations simple.

(I love this giant sunflower, but it clangs really loudly against the front door. This year, I hung it on another door right inside the house.)

(I left my Steampunk mantel and added a few pumpkins and my tiny Catrinas.)
I’m really keeping things simple this year, but I like the small changes, and I’m sure I’ll add more elements as it starts to feel like fall outside. Are you doing any decorating?

I do decorate for Christmas, but for Halloween the only decorations I’ve got are this pumpkin wine holder and a black-cat towel. I love your dining room! Those candles are adorable.
I definitely decorate more now that I have kids. And thank you! I try to add a bit of color for Dia de los Muertos. 😉
I’m thinking I’ll only be decorating the outside of the house for Halloween this year — and even that I’m a bit nervous about — I hope baby doesn’t show up early and leave me with Halloween stuff all over the front yard!
James was due in December, so I felt the same way about Christmas. It took me an entire week to get the tree down after he was born.
it also didn’t feel like fall until about a week ago here. and i’m sure as it goes for you, it’s not like “real” fall for many people in cold places. either way, I love your fall decorations! that runner reminds me of ones we saw in Mexico and I like how you used non traditional fall colors. and the steampunk mantel is a fun touch.

Thank you, Dus! I think our fall must feel like other places’ summer, ha ha. I grew up in San Antonio and I’ve always loved the bright colors associated with the fall holidays there.
