Walking with Cake: Facial Mists

(Facial sprays by Fig & Yarrow and R.L. Linden & Co.)

I’ve already sung the praises of R.L. Linden & Co.’s Beautifying Mist Hydrating Floral Toner, and since I use an assortment of facial sprays on a regular basis, I thought I’d add a few others to my list of favorites. I find facial sprays incredibly helpful for setting makeup once it’s applied, but also for refreshing it throughout the day. During these extremely hot summer days, a cool mist can be incredibly soothing in the afternoon.

May Lindstrom’s The Jasmine Garden is another lovely floral spray and a great introduction to her line of skincare. It’s suitable for your hair and body, and can lightly scent your sheets before bedtime, too.

Currently, I’m using two bottles of Complexion Water by Fig & Yarrow, one as a toner and one as a freshener. The Yarrow/Immortelle/Rockrose scent is perfect for toning my skin after cleansing, and it leaves a gentle, refreshing feeling. The scent is definitely unusual and almost reminds me of cooked carrots, but I’ve come to like it and use it each evening. And the Rose/Sandalwood/Neroli scent is a light, floral fragrance, which is perfect for setting makeup and refreshing later in the day.

Another excellent option for facial spray is plain water, and I have often used a spray bottle filled with distilled or filtered water and a drop or two of lavender oil. It’s perfect for touching-up hair, too. These days, I’m using a bottle of Avène’s Thermal Spring Water to remove my facial cleanser, and it doubles as a facial spray very nicely.

Facial sprays have become an important part of my morning routine, and I especially love them in the warmer months. (A word of caution, though: be sure to test out floral sprays or those with essential oils and use them carefully. I was a little overzealous with one of mine recently and I think it caused a rash after I applied it too often before going out into the brutal August heat.)

Do you like facial sprays as part of your makeup routine? I’d love to hear your recommendations!
