My heart broke for Boston yesterday. I visited there in high school, exploring the city during the snows of February.
There’s not much to say right now, but I did hear this story yesterday morning, hours before the race began, and was inspired by this Austin runner’s strength. He ran with a well-known guide, which added a bit more interest to an already interesting story.
Both runners finished the race and were able to evacuate the area shortly after the explosions.
My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Boston, and with all of the runners who participated in the marathon.
This week we’re discussing social media, and today’s question is: Do You Promote Your Blog on Social Media? Why or Why Not?
Since I’ve been pretty open about this in the past, you probably already know that my answer is both Yes and No. Besides my blog, you can also find me on Google+ and Twitter (both icons are over there on the right), and my blog actually has its own Google+ page, where I post a link to posts on a daily basis. I also mention some posts on Twitter, like this collaboration, but I don’t do it every single day. I tried it for a while and didn’t find that it drove much more traffic my way, and I didn’t want to become that blogger, so now I just sort of go with the flow and allow my Twitter interactions to be more fun and personable.
I’m not on Facebook or Pinterest, though I did seriously consider Facebook when I started this blog. That’s shocking, I know! But I thought twice about it, and since I’ve never used it, I guess I have no idea what I’m missing. Even though I don’t have a Pinterest account, I do visit the site from time to time, and I happen to know that some of my blog’s photos have been pinned by other users. That’s totally fine with me, but it’s just not a platform I’ve chosen to adopt. Maybe one day, but honestly, I am so busy with my boys, and then blogging, that I’m afraid I’d just get too sucked in. I also like finding inspiration the old-fashioned way, and I have pretty magazine layouts taped to the wall above my computer that inspire me on a regular basis.
I should probably promote my blog more, but I’m thrilled with the way things are now, and it seems to work for me. I’m getting better about mentioning my blog in person, and I always carry my cute little calling cards with me, so I can hand them out whenever I meet someone new.
If you’re a blogger, how do you use social media to promote your blog? I’d love to hear your thoughts. And please check out Shayla’s response at her blog, Northern Exposure. She’s much more “social” than I am!
This week was pretty quiet, but we are gearing up for the end of the boys’ school year, which means lots of events, a music show, and parties in the coming weeks. I can’t believe summer officially starts for us next month! Here are a few things that caught my eye this week.
To explain the picture above, you’ll have to check out Ryan’s new blog! After much encouragement from me, he finally started one to detail the entire brewing process. Those empty wooden racks in the photo are meant to hold his wooden barrels, which will be used tonight.
Proof that women do play golf at Augusta National now. I am not a sports fan at all (or a Republican), but this is really nice to see.
A wonderful post by my favorite fashion blogger.
And not to go all Earth Mother here, but this is an interesting article on lotus births. They aren’t really new or trendy, but this is the first time I’ve seen mention of them from a mainstream source.
We have no plans this weekend beyond tonight’s brew session, and that is a wonderful thing!
Have a great weekend!
