The space above my desk was in need of a seasonal update, so Saturday morning I took down the old pictures and put up my stack of new ideas. When I look at magazines and catalogs, I usually mark the photos I love and save them. Then, when I get around to it, I’ll hang them above my computer for inspiration. It’s nice having something pretty to look at while I work, and if I get stuck on an idea while writing, I can let my eyes wonder while my brain refocuses. Most of these images came from the September Vogue and the many winter catalogs that are filling my mailbox these days. I love getting catalogs in the mail, don’t you?
I think fall is a great time to tackle new projects and find inspiring ideas. I’m taking another blogging class this month, and I’m hoping to learn a bit about photography and photo styling. It should be fun and challenging, and I always love meeting new bloggers and making new friends. I also signed up for a blogger pen pal program that sounds like so much fun.
So here’s to a month of new beginnings! Do you have any fun plans this fall?

Oh man, this week was crazy, to say the least! We recovered from that awful stomach bug and then Austin got hit hard with torrential rains Wednesday night. We are safe and dry, thankfully, but there was severe flooding in parts of the city and neighborhoods were also evacuated. I think everyone is looking forward to a quiet weekend at home. Here are a few things that caught my attention this week.
An interesting interview with Arcade Fire. Monday night, I listened to a live concert they held, via my local public radio station.
I am not a football fan, but this story of a middle school team’s sneaky move is truly inspiring. You’ll need some tissue.
Monday’s Google Doodle honored costume designer Edith Head.
My sister sent me the link to this beautiful, Frida Kahlo-inspired pumpkin.
Lovely photos inspired by London’s style during the 1960s. Just ignore that cigarette.
Creepy photos of Texas ghost towns.
Have a wonderful weekend!

ModCloth asked me to participate in their weekly “Uniquely You” Campaign, and I was chosen to style Bea & Dot’s Following Dreams Sweater with other ModCloth pieces. Since the stripes and polka dots feel very French to me, I stayed with a monochromatic color scheme and added a bit of sparkle with gold jewelry. This is a look I’m really favoring right now, and I tried to pick items that are similar to those in my current wardrobe.
I also stayed true to my love for fair trade and ethically-made clothing, so my choices include the skirt and necklace by Mata Traders. The booties and the handbag are both made from vegan faux leather, and I hope this look shows you how easy it is to mix conscientious clothing choices with more mainstream pieces from your closet.
Many thanks to ModCloth for this fun opportunity! Be sure to visit their “Uniquely You” Polyvore page to see the campaign boards from previous weeks.
