Anthro: USA 3

Anthro: USA 3

November 25, 2013 · by Catherine · in (Fair) Fashion & Beauty

This is the third part of my new series featuring Anthropologie’s American-made clothing lines.  To fit my criteria, the brand must have at least five American-made pieces currently for sale at Anthropologie.  You can find the other parts of the series here and here.

Walking with Cake: Left of Center and Made via Anthropologie

(Left: Left of Center’s Chevron Frequency Cardigan. Right: Pandhandle Leather Necklace by MADE.)

Left of Center:  A line of lovely, affordable knitwear.  The Chevron Frequency Cardigan is so pretty.

MADE:  Okay, technically MADE isn’t “made” in the United States, but since it’s an ethical jewelry brand created by trained Kenyan artisans that use sustainable sources, it has to go on my list.  The Pandhandle Leather Necklace would make a gorgeous Christmas gift.

Walking with Cake: Mother Jeans and Nanette Lepore via Anthropologie

(Left: Mother Runaway Skinny Flare Jeans. Right: Peplum Snake Shirt by Nanette Lepore.)

Mother: A denim line with great silhouettes and some fun, funky jeans.  They have quite a few patterned and colored pieces that are lovely.  The Runaway Skinny Flare Jeans are great for everyday wear.

Nanette Lepore: A line of fairly expensive party wear.  Two of the pieces are imported, and I debated including this brand in my list.  But the line is fairly large, and it can be difficult to find responsible, dressier options.  The Peplum Snake Skirt is really fun and elegant.

I hope you are finding this series helpful, and I have two more installments left to explore.  Tomorrow, I’ll also show you a piece I recently purchased from one of the brands.

Walking with Cake: Fall Leaves

(The leaves in our yard are finally changing color!)

Ah, this week was back to normal and I’m happy to report that everyone in our house is healthy!  We’re planning a quiet weekend as we begin preparations for hosting Thankgiving next week.  Here are a few things that caught my attention this week.

This Welsh band covers popular songs, with a bluegrass twist.  Be sure to check out all of their videos!

Historic photographs in color.  Some are graphic.

Jon Hamm takes on Russian lit.  (And the British reporter mentioned “Texas University,” but it’s really the University of Texas.)

Margaret Atwood on Doris Lessing.

Generation Xers should know these references.  (For the record, I’m technically too young for this category, but just barely.)

I always feel this way in IKEA.

And since it’s Friday, I can has pizza.

Have a wonderful weekend!

(Our diaper changing station is gone.)

Walking with Cake: End of an era

(Our diaper changing station is gone.)

After five years and two little boys, I finally disposed of our diaper changing pad this week.  The poor thing was in terrible shape and probably should have been retired a while ago.  It sat on our bathroom counter since right before James was born, and then Rhys came along less than two years later, so I never had to put it up between babies.  I also cleaned out the diaper bag and put it into the donation pile, because we don’t need it any longer, either.

And as thrilling as it is to be a diaper-free household, there’s still a tiny bit of wistfulness tugging at my heartstrings.  Several of my friends had babies this fall, and I love hearing about them and getting to snuggle them occasionally, too.  I know without a doubt that my baby days are behind me, and my boys are growing right before my eyes.  This is just one small step in a series of many that will end with them growing into adults.

That’s still a long time from now, and I try to remember to enjoy each day as it comes.  But that’s hard, too, with rushing to get out of the house in the morning, and the boys fighting and wrestling, and driving back and forth, back and forth all day long.

I think this is how it feels to be a parent, with the memories of the past tugging at you while you worry about tomorrow and struggle with today.  It’s normal, and it’s hard, but there are so many wonderful things, too.

I remind myself of that. How wonderful today is.

And now I’ve got that counter space to myself again when I get ready each morning.
