This and That

Walking with Cake: Lady Hare holding dog

(Lady Hare Holding Dog. A precious statue at Zach Theatre.)

This week flew by again! We got ready for Easter and the boys had their school parties yesterday.  There will be plenty of egg hunting and too much candy this weekend, as well as time with friends and family.  My ribs are on the mend, thankfully, and I’m feeling back to normal again.  Here are a few things that caught my eye this week.

The Shirt on Your Back: The human cost of the Bangladeshi garment industry.  An interactive story that I strongly encourage you to watch and read. It might change your mind about the way you shop.

Another amazing story of forgiveness.

The bond between a police officer and the young survivor of a terrible crime.

“A 22-year-old girl who died young, beautiful, and wickedly talented.”

An actor’s experience working with Scarlett Johansson. It’s not what you think.

The “peak beard” scenario. Looks like it might be time to shave, guys.

The top 10 female nudes in art.

What does low blood sugar have to do with voodoo dolls?

And a short film about conquering your fears at any age.

Have a great weekend and a wonderful Easter!

Walking with Cake: Roses De Chloé

(Roses De Chloé.)

Sephora had their VIB 15% off sale a few weeks ago, and I took advantage of the discount to finally buy Roses De Chloé.  Since perfume is on my list of necessities, right up there with deodorant and toothpaste, and I’ve been waiting to buy my own bottle of this new fragrance for a while, I put my coupon code to really good use.  Fragrances don’t go on sale, but you can find some great gift packages and discounts around Mother’s Day each year.  And a 15% off coupon will save you a significant amount, too.

I love the original Chloé scent and I knew I’d love this one, too.  It’s been featured in lots of magazines lately, and since my favorite perfumes are usually floral, this one is perfect for me.  The original fragrance is slightly salty and reminds me of summer, and Roses De Chloé is light and fresh with a lovely hint of rose.  It’s very feminine, but not heavy or overpowering at all.  I can even layer it over my lavender oil in the morning, and the result smells so heavenly.

I also photographed the product’s box because I love the simple fonts and the pretty pink color.  The bottle is classic Chloé, though with a pink ribbon in place of the original blush color.  My first bottle tarnished for some reason, so I’m hoping that doesn’t happen to this one.  But it really doesn’t matter, because the scent is my new favorite for warmer months.

Walking with Cake: Spring 2014 Inspiration

(My current inspiration board.)

Since the weather’s warming up and summer will be here before we know it, I changed up my inspiration board again.  Sadly, some of the pictures were too heavy and were knocked down by the wind from the ceiling fan one night, so my actual board is much smaller now.  That’s okay, though, because I’ve really been favoring a minimal look lately.

I’m not sure why, but I’ve been drawn to blogs and articles where less is more. I don’t think I could ever strip my walls and floors completely bare, but I enjoy reading about that style.  And maybe because I’ve stopped coloring my hair, I’m also drawn to a simpler style in my wardrobe, too.  This weekend, I cleaned out my closet and let go of the things I’m no longer using. Then I went through my jewelry box and lightened it, too.

I enjoy the process of cleaning out and letting go.  It’s fun to see what I used to wear and how my style continues to change.  I still love floral patterns and vintage-style clothing, but a solid tee with black pants and simple jewelry looks just as lovely, I think.  I have my beauty favorites, and I’m trying to be more frugal when I buy new products to try.  It’s probably a part of getting older, too, and little things that once caught my eye no longer seem to interest me.  Now, I look for objects that will last through several seasons and serve me well into the future.

And I keep listening to this song. It makes me think of winter, but I like the hopefulness in it, too.

What’s inspiring you right now?
