(Austin’s lovely Violet Crown.)
By the time you read this, I’ll be enjoying my third day at Alt Summit, in Salt Lake City. I return Sunday afternoon, so please be patient if I don’t have a new post up Monday morning. I’m sure my head will be filled with all kinds of wonderful things to share, so you can look forward to those in the coming days. Until then, here are a few things that caught my eye before I left.
I don’t have an iPhone and I’m not on Instagram, but this photographer is and his photos are really cool!
Netflix has a new original series, House of Cards, premiering February 1st and starring Kevin Spacey. I loved Lilyhammer, so I’m definitely going to check this out.
I watched President Obama’s inauguration and was struck by how truly modern it was! James Taylor, Kelly Clarkson, and Beyonce on the podium! Here’s a funny glimpse at some of the lighter moments of the day. And the full text of Richard Blanco’s inaugural poem, which is truly lovely.
Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you next week!

Sandra’s Downton Abbey Compendium inspired me so much that I had to take action! After watching that stunning fashion shoot video dozens of times, I spied the cosmetics used on the set and had to get my hands on them. I love the look of dramatic eyes paired with blushing cheeks and lips, so I was excited to try Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush and LipSurgence Lip Tint, both in Amused.
I first used Tarte’s famous Cheek Stain years ago and liked it, but because I have oily skin, powder blush works best on me. This blush, which comes in a cute pink compact, is very highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way. It is definitely long-lasting, and I love the natural blush it adds to my cheeks.
Tarte’s LipSurgence Lip Tint in Amused is incredibly light and refreshing, adding a nice pink color to my lips, and I’m really sorry I didn’t try this product sooner. I assumed it was more like a lip pencil, but it’s actually a crayon-type product that goes on extremely smoothly and is not drying at all. It’s a bit matte, so I just add some light gloss on top and I’m ready to go. For someone like me who often uses four lip products at once (lip balm, lip liner, lipstick, and lip gloss), this is absolutely perfect. It can be applied without a mirror, too, which is great for on-the-go retouching. Best of all, it is retractable and doesn’t need sharpening, so I’m planning to try the other colors later this year, too.
I can’t believe this day has finally arrived, but here it is! Ryan and I are covering the boys with kisses, hopping a plane, and flying to Salt Lake City! It’s our first time leaving our little guys overnight (let alone out of state!), and the first big trip we’ve taken alone since James was born. It’s also my first time to attend a blogging conference (talk about baptism by fire!), so I am incredibly excited and incredibly anxious, too. I haven’t flown in five years, and I’m a nervous flyer at that, but Ryan found a direct flight, so at least we won’t be hanging around airports all day.
I have no idea what to expect when we get there (they have this stuff called SNOW!?!), and I promise to take lots of notes and pictures, all for you. My business cards are ready and I put together some great outfits, so I think I’m ready to go!
I’ve scheduled posts for your enjoyment throughout the rest of the week, and I’m hoping to return refreshed and inspired.
Here I go! Wish me luck!
