Walking with Cake: DeathtoStock_Creative Community1

It’s been three months since I first tried this experiment, but my goal is to write a short poem using an image from Death to the Stock Photo as inspiration. Here is my second attempt, which I wrote over the holidays when I felt like blogging one night.

Bright beginnings

and tiny seedlings,

the promise of sun through the parting clouds.

A hint of green on a January day

and hopes for the year to come.

Walking with Cake: Nomads' Jersey Cardigan

(Keeping warm in Nomads’ Jersey Cardigan.)

Before Christmas, Nomads Clothing, a fair trade company based in the United Kingdom, asked me to review a piece from their current line, and I chose this lovely Jersey Cardigan in slate.  I’m always a fan of comfy cardigans, and I was intrigued by the longer length.  The piece arrived over the holidays and I’ve been excited to share it with you.

For a casual, everyday look, I paired it with Everlane’s Navy Silk Tank, my trusty Paige jeans, and my favorite necklace from Oh My Clumsy Heart. With basic black flats, this is a great outfit for running errands and going to appointments during the week. Though the sun was shining, it was still chilly when these pictures were taken, and the cardigan kept me warm in the shade.

Nomads Clothing is a well-established clothing line inspired by the craft and culture of India, which is clearly reflected in its beautiful pieces. The entire line is fair trade and Nomads works with artisans to maintain the traditional handicrafts of India. I am always excited to learn about fair trade clothing companies, and I was impressed with Nomads’ entire fair trade policy. They have been in business since 1989, which is also quite impressive.

Walking with Cake: Cardigan with dress

(A dressier look with Curator’s Jessa Dress and Nomads’ Jersey Cardigan.)

For a second, dressier look, I paired the Jersey Cardigan with the Jessa Dress by Curator. The dress itself is definitely a minimalist style, and the cardigan, with navy tights and heels, adds a bit of interest to the outfit. I love the sweater’s longer length and it works perfectly with the hem of this dress.

I’ve fallen in love with this comfy cardigan and I’m thrilled to add another fair trade site to my shopping list. Nomads is currently having a 50% off sale on many of their most popular items, so be sure to visit their online store.

(I received this cardigan to review, but all opinions are my own.)

Walking with Cake: Old truck

(An old truck decorated for the holidays in Georgetown, Texas.)

We had a relaxing Christmas break, and I’m more than ready to get back into the swing of things. The boys don’t actually go back to school until later this week, but I’m looking forward to the return of our routine. My blogging break was refreshing, though I did find myself ready to write again last week. I held off and focused on other things instead, like watching television in the evenings and reading books and magazines.

By nature, I’m not big on resolutions, and I’m at a point in my life where things are staying the same these days.  The majority of my time is spent caring for my little guys, and my free time is spent reading (mostly online, if I’m totally honest) and blogging. I’m happy with my blog’s success and I hope to keep up the same rhythm and routine this year. I received a big stack of books for Christmas, and I want to make more time each day to actually sit and read quietly, like I did before I had children. I also plan to dive into my Alabama Chanin sewing kit which, sadly, sat untouched over the holidays. But there’s time for everything.

Ryan and I are also making more time to spend with each other after the boys go to bed, and that means he’s cut back on brewing while I’ve reduced my posting schedule. Parenting two boys leaves us exhausted at night, and while it’s easy to retreat to our regular routines, we’re using that time to talk about the day and relax together.

I’m looking forward to this year and I have a few upcoming projects in the works. I also have a few extra posts planned for this week, so be sure to check back each day.

Are you making any plans for 2015? I’d love to hear your thoughts, too.
