Back in May, I told you about my love of “Bomb Girls,”<\/a> the popular Canadian show that was cancelled after two seasons but appeared on Netflix.\u00a0 The second season became available recently, and I just finished it.\u00a0 I’m sad there’s not more to the story, but at least I can watch it again and again.\u00a0 And there’s also a new campaign<\/a> to pitch the series to other television stations and Netflix, so all hope is not lost yet.<\/p>\n

“Bomb Girls” is really an ensemble piece about the women working in a Toronto munitions factory during World War II, and the cast has some true standouts.\u00a0 There’s Lorna, the factory matron, who works hard to keep her family together; Betty, the strong and determined leader of the group, who struggles with her sexuality; Kate, the sweet and innocent newbie who hides a difficult past; and Glady, the upper-class girl who just wants to be like everyone else.<\/p>\n

Gladys is a true 1940s style icon, and though all the actors wear authentic period pieces, she really shines.\u00a0 As a wealthy member of Toronto society during the war, she still has access to luxuries the other girls don’t, like silk stockings and perfume.\u00a0 Her outfits are perfectly cut, structured, and accessorized, and she is never without the proper gloves, hat, and handbag.\u00a0 Though she changes for work, as all the girls do, it’s a treat to see Gladys in her lovely ensembles, and even her dressing gown is beautifully detailed.<\/p>\n

If you asked me, I’d have trouble picking a favorite character from “Bomb Girls,” but Gladys Witham has the most beautiful clothes by far, and I really admire her style.\u00a0 I thought about her character a lot while researching the makeup trends of the 1940s for The Glamorous Housewife’s<\/em> series<\/a>.<\/p>\n
