The View From Here: Where Do You Find Your Inspiration?

The View from HereIt’s Monday, which means it’s time for my blog collaboration with Shayla!

Today’s question is: Where Do You Find Your Inspiration?

Everywhere!  I describe my blog as, “writing about beauty in everyday life.” so that’s literally what I try to do.  I keep a running list of ideas by my computer, and a notepad in my purse, so I’m always jotting down thoughts as they come to me.  Sometimes, a song’s lyrics will touch me, I’ll read a line from a book, I’ll hear a funny story, or just see something while I’m running errands, and those little bits of inspiration can become an idea for a blog post.

Sometimes, it’s an image I see while I’m driving, like this old, blue truck near the boys’ school.

Walking with Cake: Old blue truck

(The truck I see on the way to and from the boys’ school. I finally snapped a picture of it.)

Something about it just moves me, and I’ve been meaning to take a picture of it for weeks, so I finally did.  There’s not much to say about it, really, but I find it beautiful.  It reminds me of my grandfather’s old blue pickup that he drove on the farm, and how, as a little girl, I got to sit up front with him while my boy cousins rode in the back to help feed the cows.  I remember the smell of old car vinyl mixed with the dry dust of summer, and how the wind blew through the open windows while grasshoppers jumped all around us.  The cab was dirty, a true farm truck, and random bits of paper littered the dashboard.

So that’s why I photographed this truck, that I pass by many times each week.  It helps me to remember a time long gone, and preserve it, just a little.  My mind works that way sometimes, and I try to go along with it, wherever it might take me.

Be sure to check out Shayla’s response at Northern Exposure, and come back next week as we answer our next question in the series.
